paintings

Self-portrait--my first departure from realism.

My sister, Anna, done in acrylic. I based this painting style on a method of drawing I'd been playing with at the time--where I'd draw without lifting the pen from the paper. I tried to achieve the same feeling using paint, the roundness and swirliness, while not resorting to a single black line. I have plans to paint portraits of dozens of people, everyone close to me really, all on these small, nearly square canvases which will cover a whole wall.

A houseboat, as Michaela imagined it in her postcard to me, sailing on a sea of orzo.

An exercise for class.

Another self-portrait, inspired by a long wait at a bus stop in Trenton. The the glass in the frame that holds it cracked accidentally, which I wound up liking. At the moment, this drawing is on display at the Vibe Cafe in Trenton. All my efforts to get it back have failed, and I'm a little worried. I promised it to my aunt.

An exercise.

Yet another self-portrait--this one in charcoal. It's a combination of a photograph taken by my friend, Emily, and another wait in Trenton for the bus.

Click to enlarge--a series of ink drawings.

A five minute sketch, using black marker and acrylic paint, which was sort of rubbed on with my fingers.

One of ten cardboard contraptions. These are the glasses of truth. Put them on, and everything you've wondered about becomes perfectly understood.

A long tunnel made of hundreds of yards of different shades of lavender. Sitting inside brought a strange sense of peace.

The Life Editing Machine--just slip in a piece of blank paper, and rewrite anything that's happened to you as you wish it had occurred.

The Dream Recording Device--Slip in the vhs tape, place the monitors on each temple, and fall asleep. When you awake, rewind and watch all of your dreams from the previous night.
